Brief History

Chinmaya Mission San Jose launched "Om Run" program in 2009 to bring the Chinmaya Family in the greater SF Bay Area together for a fun filled day of outdoor activities for both kids and adults. The main objective was to encourage our Balavihar Kids and all the adults to participate in this Running Program and to raise funds for the new Ashram the mission is planning to build in San Jose. Our first run was in 2010 and was a huge success! Over 1000+ people participated in this event. It became an instant success within the Chinmaya Community in the Bay Area. The event day was packed with 5K, 10K, Walkathon for kids & senior citizens, Jump house, Games and fun activities along with nice boutique stalls and food! Followed by a Half Marathon in Pascadero, CA. Following its success, we had another successful event in 2011 in Quarry Lakes in Fremont. This time the mela-event was followed by both a Half Marathon in Oakland and a "Avenue of the Giants" Full Marathon in Piercy, CA. Inspired by the amount of fun we had these past two years and the increased number of participants, we are launching this running program in 2013 as well!
